I think we knew that by building the stairs up La Loma, we were starting down the path of a larger journey, that in some way the stairs were just the signature on a universal commitment letter...

it felt like the journey had started, and in some ways it had; but it was in so many ways, more of a test of whether we were willing to commit to the road ahead, step 00 of many…and it’s funny because we could have still lied to ourselves upon their completion, we could have resigned to the idea that we built these steps simply to access the river...
BUT we ALL know, you included, if you’ve already read our reflections about building the stairs, that we were accessing the river just fine without them. So completing them was not a

“completion” it was a gateway, that even upon completion brought us once more to both the literal and proverbial foot of a mountain. These stairs were built to be used, and it would, not only, be ourselves that we would climb up them, but many many things: as many things as our hands could carry, for as long as our legs would permit us to carry them; and as many times as it would take; to raise everything we needed: to build whatever it is that these stairs have given us access to build up there, on our little ridge, at the foot of a mountain, that grew much MUCH bigger from here...
BUT luckily, as fate and Divine genius/plan would have it, we had the smallest bit of this mountain AND we were so enamored with what we had just achieved, and excited for what we would now be able to do, that we didn’t have time to fear the HOW: how many times we would climb them; with how many 1000’s of pounds of materials we would raise up them; How we would fund what we needed to build; or how many beads of sweat we would offer to the mountain in exchange for its blessing to build upon it at all…so for now, we were content with the view of a mountain, happily surrounded by the tall grass of its rocky meadows, tamed only by the stairs that saddled it, slightly less wild than the days before …today was good... tomorrow we would start to conceive the HOW.
